Framed Print of Pedro Antonio Veciana (Pere Anton Veciana i Rabassa)
Pedro Antonio Veciana (Pere Anton Veciana i Rabassa) (Sarral, ca. 1682-Valls, 1736). Catalan peasant and politician. A supporter of Philip V, he settled in Valls where in 1718 fought against the guerrillas who were rising up against the Bourbons. In 1719 he organised a squadron to defend the town of Valls. Its efficacy meant that it remained a permanent defence corps under his command. He was appointed first commander of the Escuadras de Cataluna (Squadrons of Catalonia). Portrait. Engraving. Historia de las Escuadras de Cataluna, 1876. Mary Evans Picture Library makes available wonderful images created for people to enjoy over the centuries. © Thaliastock / Mary Evans
