The Particular Service Squadron in Bantry Bay, Ireland. Assembled as part of a fleet for Baltic operations, primarily against their Russian counterparts. The sketches depict naval manoeuvres, the first of their kind, which took place from June-July 1885. Top Left: torpedo boats off duty. Top Right: a lecture on Boomery'. Bottom: the ship Polyphemus in action. All men are hidden other than powder monkeys, whose job was to transport gunpowder from the hull to the artillery onboard. Date: 1885
