L'egare II - North Atlantic expedition raft, at Falmouth
L'egare II, a raft used by a French crew in 1956 to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The expedition, led by Henri Beaudout, departed from Halifax, Nova Scotia, arriving 88 days later at Falmouth, England. As well as the human crew, there were two cats, Puce (meaning flea in French), who was black, and Guiton, his sister, who was grey. (After landfall at Falmouth, the two cats were presented to the Duke of Bedford and lived out their lives on a replica of l'Egaire II at Woburn Abbey, as part of the Children's Zoo). Date: 1956
