Beauty of Japan's Textiles
Beauty of Japan's Textiles - the young woman on the left, holding a battledore, is in formal New Year's Day dress. The one on the right is in a homongi, a costume suitable for paying visits. Both wear pure silk crepe. In the upper background is an Itonishiki embroidered maruobi (a broad one-piece sash), hand-embroidered with various silk yarns in gold, silver and other colours. In the lower right is golden yarn kimono material of silk crepe called Eboshi chirimen, a high grade textile. The models in the picture came from the Daimaru department store in Osaka. Date: 1930s
