Victoria Cross - Lieutenant William Leefe Robinson
Victoria Cross - Lieutenant William Leefe Robinson (1895-1918) (Royal Flying Corp) - awarded for most conspicuous bravery. On 2nd/3rd September 1916 over Cuffley, Hertfordshire, Robinson attacked the German Schutte-Lanz SL 11 airship under heavy fire and took it down. He had already been in the air for two hours at the time and had previously attacked another airship earlier in his sortie. Date: 1916
