Edith Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Marchioness of Londonderry DBE (1878 - 1959), noted society hostess, and, during the First World War director of the Womens Legion (originally the WVR - Womens Volunteer Reserve), taking an interest in the Military Cooking Section. The magnificent Londonderry House in Park Lane was turned into a military hospital during the war, as were two of Lord Londonderrys country seats. Lady Londonderry was formerly Edith Helen Chaplin and married Charles Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh in 1899. Pictured in 1933 around the time she gave a reception in honour of the delegates to the Economic Conference. Date: 1933
