Liberation of the 1st Town Hall, Benouville, Normandy
This plaque, on the wall of the Mairie just up the road from what became known as Pegasus Bridge, claims that Liberation came at 2345 hours on 5 June, yet the landings of the first parachutists (the Pathfinders) was not until 0020 hours on 6 June. The explanation is that French time was one hour behind UK time. However, there is healthy competition between villages and other locations to be The First and such claims need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Date: 2008
