Captain Charles Kingsford Smiths aeroplane, the Southern Cross (VH-USU), in which he and others made the first fully successful westbound North Atlantic flight on 23-24 June 1930, flying from Ireland to Newfoundland. The route was from Portmarnock Beach (near Dublin) to Harbour Grace (Newfoundland), distance 1, 900 miles. The time taken was 31 hours 30 minutes.
