Once every twenty years on Whit-Monday the people of Corby in Northamptonshire celebrate by holding a unique fair in commemoration of a charter granted to them by Queen Elizabeth in 1585 and confirmed by Charles II in 1682. Decorated with bunting and evergreens, arched with the sign Welcome to Our Fair, visitors entering would have to pay a toll, who ever passes without a toll tickert, (the value is optional) would be placed into the stocks, there remain till they pay.
