11th Armoured Division Memorial, Stiphout, Holland
The Market Garden Operation involved an armoured attack by British and American forces along a narrow Corridor from Belgium and then through Holland. The major obstacles on the way, apart from the Germans (!), were a series of rivers, and airborne forces were dropped in advance of the ground forces to capture bridges over them. 11th Division did not take a direct role in Market Garden but had the important task of preventing enemy attacks on the Corridor from the eastern flank.. Date: 2000
