Miss Theodosia Magill, afterwards Countess of Clanwilliam
Miss Theodosia Magill 1743 - 1817, afterwards Countess of Clanwilliam (1765). Reynolds, Sir Joshua 1723-1792. In 1765 Theodosia Magill, the heiress of Gill Hall, Co.Down, married Sir John Meade, later 1st Earl of Clanwilliam, and in the same year sat to the two leading portrait painters of the age, Sir Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough. Reynolds was the first President of the Royal Academy and his style of portraiture was strongly influenced by his reverence for classical antiquity and the High Renaissance in Italian painting.
