Nannie Langhorne Shaw pictured in The Sketch at the time of her engagement to Waldorf Astor. Her sister Irene was married to the artist Charles Dana Gibson and both women were said to be the inspiration for his drawings of elegant, pretty girls. In 1919, as Lady Nancy Astor, she would be the first woman M.P. to take her seat in the House of Commons. Date: 1906

Royal Air Force Auster S WJ316

Royal Air Force Austers WJ316, at the 1951 SBAC Farnborough Air Show. First flown in August 1950 and written off on 29 September 1955. The Austers was an AOP aircraft based on the Auster 6, with enlarged tail, one prototype only. In the background can be seen the Avro Proteus-Lincoln test-bed SX972 and the Blackburn and General Universal Freighter WF320. Date: 1951

Flaglor High-Tow N2840C

Flaglor High-Tow N2840C at Groton Connecticut. Built by F.K. Chuck Flaglor at Des Plaines IL. In 1957, the High-Tow was a hybrid with a Waco fuselage and wings from a Fleet aircraft, powered by a 220hp Continental R-760, specially for glider towing. Date: 1963
