Consuelo, Duchess of Marlborough with her two sons

Portrait of Consuelo Vanderbilt (1877 - 1964), American heiress and first wife of Charles Spencer-Churchill, 9th Duke of Marlborough. She married the duke in 1895 after being coerced into the marriage by her mother. After her divorce in 1920, she devoted much of her time to social welfare and was married again, to Colonel Jacques Balsan. Pictured here with her two sons, the Marquis of Blandford and Lord Ivor Charles Spencer-Churchill, The little boy in the right of the picture became the 10th Duke of Marlborough. Date: 1903

Ginger Rogers, applying Max Factor make up

Ginger Rogers (born Virginia Katherine McMath; July 16, 1911 April 25, 1995) American actress, dancer, and singer, best known for dance films in which she was partnered with Fred Astaire. Featured in a Max Factor booklet at the time she was one of Radio Pictures stars using the cosmetic company's rouge. The booklet emphasised Max Factor's success in developing make up which was able to withstand film studio lights and contained hints and tips on how to achieve similar results at home using Max Factor products. Date: 1937

WW1 - "Going!, Going!!, Gone!!!" Lieutenant William Leefe Robinson (1895-1918), awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces, for destroying a German Airship (Schutte-Lanz SL 11), flying a converted B.E.2c night fighter No. 2693 over Cuffley, Hertfordshire on 3rd September 1916. Date: 1916
