Metropolitan Police officers, Battle of Cable Street

Metropolitan Police officers attempt to dismantle a barricade set up by anti-fascist demonstrators in the East End of London, part of the protest against the proposed march by Sir Oswald Mosley and his British Union of Fascists. The protest was successful, and the march was diverted away from the area. Date: 4 October 1936

Royal Wedding 1919 -- Princess Patricia of Connaught

Princess Patricia of Connaught's wedding dress (left), and the dresses of the elder and younger bridesmaids. She married Commander Alexander Ramsay RN on 27 February 1919. Her dress was in Venetian style, made of white broche panne on an underdress of silver lace, and the train was made of rich cloth of silver, embroidered with a lily design. The bridesmaids' dresses were in love-in-the-mist blue georgette over blue satin. All of the dresses were by Messrs Revill and Rossiter. On her marriage Princess Patricia, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, relinquished her royal title and became Lady Patricia Ramsay. Date: March 1919

Royal Wedding 1913 -- Connaught Fife -- four dresses

The wedding dress and three trousseau dresses designed for the wedding of Arthur, Prince of Connaught and Alexandra, Duchess of Fife, which took place in the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, London, on 15 October 1913. In the foreground is the wedding dress, in white charmeuse satin, with an under dress finely embroidered in leaves and in lilies with pearls, diamante and silver. Above, from left to right, are an evening dress, an evening cloak, and the bride's going away costume in warm dove grey charmeuse. The dresses were made by Felix Barolet of Knightsbridge. Date: October 1913
