Lady Charles Cavendish aka Adele Astaire
Adele Astaire (1896 - 1981) comedy actress and dance partner of her brother, Fred Astaire from childhood until 1932, when she retired from dance to marry the British aristocrat Lord Charles Spencer Cavendish, second son of the 9th Duke of Devonshire. Pictured here wearing a white silk blouse with a simple high neck described by The Sketch as very 1934 - if not 1935, as are her array of bracelets of precious stones cut like beads'. Date: 1934

Views of the Festival of Britain (South Bank) and Fun Fair (Battersea). Top left is the boating pond with a cardboard set suggesting English village buildings. Bottom left is an aerial view of the Fun Fair, with big dipper in the background, striped dance pavilion in the centre, fountain lake and lakeside stage in front of the Crescent Restaurant. Top right shows an informal visit to the South Bank by the Danish royal family, with King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid walking through crowds of visitors at the seaside venue. Bottom right shows the royal party near the lifeboat (RNLB Sir Godfrey Baring). Date: May 1951
