Captain John Hay Beith (1876-1952) the soldier-author with the pen name Ian Hay who wrote The First Hundred Thousand (of which he was a member of) as well as various other military books. He was also awarded the military cross for his conduct at the Battle of Loos in 1915. Date: 1916
