HMS Comus left behind at Istanbul, Turkey - August 1923
HMS Comus (a C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy - attached to the 3rd Light Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean Fleet ) left behind at Istanbul, following departure of the majority of the British Mediterranean Fleet (including the HMS Marlborough, from whence this photograph was taken). In August 1923, the Allied Powers turned over Istanbul to the Nationalists, marking the final departure of occupation armies from Anatolia. This card marks the occasion of the Allied Generals handing over the custody of the city at the Dolmabahce Palace. Date: 1923
