H. L. Oakley at Llandudno
Harry Lawrence Oakley (1882-1960), silhouette artist, pictured in his studio on the pier at Llandudno, in the middle of cutting a picture. Oakley, whose silhouettes were in demand for posters, magazines illustrations and advertising, also cut thousands of portraits during his lifetime. He set up studios around the country, at seaside resorts and in department stores, but Llandudno was a particular favourite of his and he returned for the summer season regularly. Behind him can be seen examples of his work including a likeness of Sir Robert Baden Powell, which was clearly popular as he was selling them as postcards for 2d each! Date: c.1950
