German fresh water vessels, WW1
A river motor boat, used to travel along the numerous canals and water-ways of Belgium and Northern France for the transport of provisions, ammunition, mail and even troops, as well as towing strings of laden barges. In 1916, there were around 170 such boats engaged with a personnel of 450 German officers and men. The boat shown is S. M. S. Zander, one of a batch of 43 foot steel boats delivered by the Anker Yard in Berlin. Date: 1917
