Fire shovel, reverse
Cast polished steel fire shovel with a decorative brass handle, a floral finial and a bell-shaped blade with a pierced flower motif, part of a set of fire tools including tongs and a poker, each with a registration lozenge mark and the letter H which dates them to 1843, possibly made in Sheffield by H & W Turner. Date: 1843

Book, The Complete Practical Cook; Or, A New System Of the Whole Art and Mystery of Cookery, by Charles Carter, London: printed for W. Meadows, in Cornhill; C. Rivington, in St Paul's Church-Yard; and R. Hett in the Poultry, 1730. The book is a quarto voulme with 60 copper plates of table layout diagrams, recased in its original panelled, blind tooled calf boards. The front end paper is inscribed Worthington / Cowley House'. 26 x 20.5 cm
