Prince Philip at Lynden Manor with his cousins
H.R.H. Prince Philip of Greece (now Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh) pictured with his cousins Lady Tatiana Mountbatten and David, Earl of Medina at the home of his uncle and aunt, the Marquis and Marchioness of Milford Haven. The Marquess, formerly Prince George of Battenberg was the brother of Philip's mother Alice, Princess Andrew of Greece. He often spent holidays with the Milford Havens while at school at Gordonstoun. King George VI - Thanking British Children
A certificate from King George VI to the children of Great Britain on 8th June, 1946 - issued as a momento for sharing in the hardships and ultimate triumph during World War Two. The message concludes with the sentence:
"May these qualities (pride, courage, endurance and enterprise) be yours as you grow up and join in the common effort to establish among the nations of the world unity and peace."
The reverse of the certificate lists the principal events of the war and includes a space at the base for detailing the recipient's war contributions an the contibutions of his/her family.
