Cartoon, Matinees! Matinees!! Matinees

Cartoon, Matinees! Matinees!! Matinees!!! Trixie Southbank, who is tired of being an extra and wants to play Juliet, asks John Hollingshead (1827-1904), manager of the Gaiety Theatre, for a matinee slot. Hollingshead replies that it can't be done, because Mr Sparerib, the butcher, is playing Hamlet that day. A comment on the growing trend of amateurs performing in professional theatres.

Marin Sais - Movie star of the silent film era

Marin Sais (1890-1971) - Movie star of the silent film era - starred as The Girl Detective in The Closed Door for Kalem in 1915. She was named after Marin County, the area of California in which she was born. The Kalem Company was an American film studio founded in New York City in 1907 by George Kleine, Samuel Long, and Frank J. Marion. Interestingly, her name is incorrectly spelt as Marie on the card. Date: circa 1915
