Prang Sam Yod, Thailand
Prang Sam Yod, Lopburi, Thailand. This massive stone sanctuary was founded in the thirteenth century by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII, the ruler who built many of Angkor Wat's most famous temples and palaces. Like most of the temples at Angkor, Prang Sam Yod was originally a Hindu temple, with the three stone steeples (prangs) representing the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Visnu and Siva. The Thais later converted the shrine to a Buddhist temple when the kingdom of Ayutthaya rose to power.

A City on Titan
Here on Titan, largest of Saturn's satellite moons, everything is on a massive scale - their cities make New York seem puny. People are 'intelligent and civilised'.

The Roman Rocks Lighthouse, Simon's Bay, Cape of Good Hope
Engraving of the Roman Rocks lighthouse at Simon's Bay, Cape of Good Hope, March 1869. This iron lighthouse was built in 1860, but showed signs of structural failure shortly thereafter. A proposal to encase the lower part in a massive granite wall was agreed, with work taking place between 1864 and 1869. The lighthouse is pictured when the work was completed.
