Winged Victoria figure, Siegessaule, Berlin, Germany
The winged bronze Victoria figure on the top of the Siegessaeule (Pillar of Victory). The Victory Column (Siegessaule) in Berlin, Germany, designed in the 1860s to commemorate the Prussian victory in the Danish-Prussian War. By the time it was inaugurated in 1873, Prussia had also defeated Austria in the Austro-Prussian War (1866) and France in the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71)."

Cartoon, Bismarck and Gambetta. Leon Gambetta, French statesman, is looking for some stolen property (Alsace and Lorraine), which Otto von Bismarck, German Chancellor, is hiding behind his back. A comment on the difficult relationship following the Franco-Prussian War, when France had been forced to surrender territory to Germany.
