Rescuing a wounded comrade under fire - WWI. One of the soldiers of a Russian regiment rescue a wounded comrade. This noble rescuer was afterwards discovered to be a young woman who had joined up as a volunteer. She was subsequently injured and transferred from the front to a military hospital at Kiev, Ukraine. Date: circa 1915

During the 1950s recruit firefighters were trained at the Brigade Headquarters, Lambeth. Here the recruit squad are rescuing by carrying down on the 50 foot wheeled escape ladder pitched to the third floor of the station drill tower.
