From the moment it became known that a Crimean War hero, Captain William Henry Urquhart, aged 84, had died in poverty, and that without assistance he would receive a paupers funeral, every step was taken to give him a heros funeral. His coffin can be seen here, placed on a gun carriage before the funeral service.
