French officers in an underground shelter, WW1
French officers dining in an elaborately constructed underground shelter on the Western Front, somewhere in Northern France in the winter of 1915/16. The shelter, dug of bare earth boasted wattle walls and hinged doors as well as tables and chairs. The walls are graced with many pictures and portraits and a big mirror. Behind the officers can be seen pin-ups by the artist Raphael Kirchner. Date: 1916
