Scene following an explosion that took place on the premises of Messrs. Pursall and Phillips, percussion-cap manufacturers, in Whittall Street, St. Marys Square, Birmingham. The whole of the back portion of the premises was completely destroyed, portions of the roof and walls were carried by the force of the explosion to a considerable distance resulting in considerable loss of life. The explosion was the third to have occurred during the last three months in Birmingham and, predicted the ILN, would result in the compulsory removal of all such manufactories outside the town
