The first of a series of experimental powered aircraft designed and built by the A.E.A. which had been formed by Dr. Alexander Graham Bell, with J. A. D. McCurdy (a Canadian), Lt.Thomas Selfridge of the US Army, and F. W. Casey Baldwin (not to be confused with Captain Baldwin) and Curtiss as Director of Experiments.
