The Ruins of the Principal Church at Paysandu 1865
The church at Paysandu was extremely damaged during the Siege of Paysandu during the Paraguayan War, which lasted over a month of Brazilian-Colorado troops blockading and attacking the Uruguayan defences. Built in a classical style, most of the portico has collapsed and a nave of the church is severely damaged. Two soldiers survey the damage.
