French knight Jean de Saintre in helm with thistle crest defeats the Spanish knight Enguerrant in helm with stag crest in a joust from the manuscript Histoire de Petit Jehan de Saintre, late 15th century. Spectators in balconies, women in steeple headdresses and turbans, jousting knights in suits of plate armour with armorial shields, helms and crests of stag head and thistle.
