Gilbert Jessop (1874-1955)
Photograph of Gilbert Jessop, the Gloucestershire and England batsman, who was famous for his feats of quick-scoring - he once scored a century in only 40 minutes. Jessops nickname was The Croucher due the uncommonly low crouch which he adopted when batting. Between 1894 and 1914 he played 493 first-class matches, scoring 53 centuries at an average of 32.63
