Denis Compton at Hastings
Cricketer Denis Compton acknowledges the crowd at the Central Recreation Ground, Hastings. Playing for The South against Sir Pelham Warners Eleven, Middlesex and England star batsman Compton brought his aggregate run total for the season to 3, 570, thus beating the long standing record of Tom Hayward, set in 1906. This was a fantastic summer for Compton, just a few days previously he had beaten Jack Hobbs record (set in 1925) of sixteen centuries in a season. Date: September 1947
