Charles Rowell. The Celebrated Pedestrian. Born in Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, England, August 12th 1853. Height 6 ft. 5 ins. Weight 140 lbs. Winner of the Astley Belt. Representing the Long Distance Championship of the World; in the great International Six Days Walking Contest, at Gilmores Garden, New York, March 10th to 15th 1879, beating O Leary, Ennis and Harriman. And covering 500 miles and 180 yards in 5 days 19 hours, 58 minutes and 5 seconds. Date: 1879
