Evelyn Laye (1900-1996), English actress and singer, at the time she was appearing in the musical Betty in Mayfair at the Adelphi Theatre, London, in November 1925. The musical was written by J Hastings Turner, from his play The Lilies of the Field (Ambassadors Theatre, June 1923), with music by H Fraser-Simpson, first produced in Sunderland, October 1925.
