Elegant Koraibashi Bridge, Osaka, Japan
Elegant Koraibashi Bridge, Osaka, Japan. In 1870, the original wooden bridge was replaced by an iron bridge built by Alt & Co.1, a firm from Nagasaki established around 1861 by the British merchant William J. Alt (1840-1905). It was the first iron bridge in Osaka (and only the second one in Japan) and was lovingly called Kuroganebashi. Entirely of wrought iron, from the pillars to the handrail, the populace were extremely proud of their modern bridge. Date: circa 1910s
