The Dazzler by Higgins, Norman Wilkinson
Lieut.-Commander Norman Wilkinson, R.N.V.R. at work in his studio. The success achieved by this gallant officer in beating the U-boats was entirely due to copious experiments carried out regardless of personal comfort or his own studio furniture. The extreme secrecy of the work, moreover, proved an incessant strain. Wilkinson developed and led the use of a widely used disruptive coloration in naval camouflage, for which he coined the well-known term " dazzle painting" or dazzle camouflage. Date: 1919
