British Ballad, The Children (Babes) In The Woods

THE CHILDREN IN THE WOODS (BABES IN THE WOODS) First published as a ballad by Thomas Millington in Norwich in 1595, telling the traditional childrens tale of two children in the care of their uncle who are abandoned in a wood, die from neglect and are covered with leaves by robins. Their uncle, imprisoned for their neglect, dies and the children are seen here being received by angels in heaven. Folklore has it that the story originally took place in Wayland Wood in Norfolk, England
