Bolzano, Italy
Bolzano, Italy - The Ca de Bezzi, the oldest Inn in Bolzano. This historic tavern is late medieval (15th century) in date and built by the Teutonic Order. The name is inferred from an ancient coin, Batzen (Bezzi) which corresponded to the price of a measure of wine. For centuries, the Ca de Bezzi was not only the Osteria of the Order of Teutonic Knights but in the nineteenth century it was the coterie of intellectuals, politicians and artists, from the Duke of Bavaria to the Austrian painter Albin Egger Lienz and the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. Date: circa 1920s
