Admiral Sir Tom Phillips (1888 - 1941), who was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Fleet on 1 December 1941. He subsequently commanded Force Z during the Japanese invasion of Malaya. He went down with his flagship H.M.S. Prince of Wales during the battle. Date: December 1941
