Queen Elizabeth II dressed in protective white overalls to make her first descent into a coal-mine at Rothes Colliery, Fife, Scotland in 1958. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh spent two hours at the colliery and stayed underground for about half an hour where they visited different parts of the mine and chatted with the miners at the coal face.
