Wreck of the Idun, Southwold, by Reg Carter
Wreck of the Idun, Southwold, 17 January 1912, by Reg Carter (1886-1949), freelance commercial artist based in Southwold, Suffolk, where he had his studio in the High Street. The Idun was a three-masted Norwegian barque which was blown onto the sandbanks. The bright light in the sky is a line being fired by the coastguards rocket crew, to try to haul the ship to shore. Sadly the ship could not be saved, but the crew were rescued. Date: 1912
