Woman in a turban by George Ranstead
A stylised black and white illustration of a woman in a turban or toque style hat as she smokes a cigarette, the smoke of which curls artistically around her head. Drawing on a postcard by George Ranstead, amateur artist of the Great War who served in the Army Pay Corps. Ransteads drawings alternated between mainly humorous illustrations of wartime life and the occasional sketch of pretty, fashionable girls. His style and choice of subjects is clearly influenced by the pictures that appeared in the illustrated magazines of the period.
