W. T. Tilden and protege
William ( Bill ) Tatem Tilden (1893 - 1953), American tennis player, known as Big Bill. Dominated international tennis in the first half of the 1920s; won Wimbledon three times and the US Open seven times. Pictured here with his latest protege, Jack Behr, who the editorial describes, was adopted by the Master. Tilden was a homosexual and served two prison sentences in the 1940s for so-called misdemeanours. Date: 1931
