First performed in England at the Theatre Royal, Manchester 7th September and Haymarket Theatre, 30th October 1895. Christmas card advertising the Haymarket production, as shown by the pun on Tree, (Herbert Beerbohm Tree) the actor manager, who played Svengali. He had seen the play in Boston in March 1895. Date: 1895
