Front cover of Made in the Trenches, a book published to raise money for the Star and Garter Fund in aid of disabled soldiers and sailors during the war. All the articles and sketches contained within were contributed by soldiers, some of whom were professional artists such as the contributor of the famous front cover images - Arf a Mo Kaiser, drawn by Bert Thomas. It was edited by Sir Frederick Treves, royal physician, friend of John Merrick and a supporter of the Star & Garter Hospital in Richmond during the war. Date: 1916
