Tippoo Tib (1837-1905), whose real name was Hamid ibn Mohammed, was an African-Arab adventurer and warrior, who controlled a large section of Central Africa. His aid to H.M. Stanley and other European explorers was invaluable in their exploration and exploitation of the region
