Teacher Training College and Hostels / Halls - Bingley
Teacher Training College and Hostels - Bingley, West Yorkshire. The reverse of this card is from a student in residence at Alcuin Hall (named after the Yorkshire Educationalist) in 1912, who reports: "...there are five halls each large enough to hold forty students... two thirds men, but we have to work at Drill every morning!". Bingley Teacher Training College opened in 1911 with Helen Wodehouse as principal. The first intake of students was 102 women from in and around the then West Riding of Yorkshire. Over the years until its closure in 1979 the college produced approximately 16, 000 teachers. Date: 1912
