Tatler cover featuring tennis player, A. F. Wilding
Tatler front cover photograph of New Zealand tennis player, Anthony Frederick Wilding, Wimbledon Mens Champion in 1910, 1911, 1912 and 1913. His championship run came to an end in 1914 when he was beaten by Australian, N. E. Brookes in three straight sets. Wilding died near Neuve Chapelle, France on 9 May 1915 while fighting in the Battle of Aubers Ridge. Pictured in this photograph with Mr Basil Foster at a private tennis tournament at Sussex Lodge in Regents Park, the home of Mrs Hall-Walker. The tournament partnered many well-known society people with doughty champions of the racket! Date: 1912
