Suffragettes Demonstrating Chelmsford 1908
The scene on a Saturday in late November 1908, outside an inn, Chelmsford, Essex. The W.S.P.U organised a colourful demonstration ahead of the forthcoming by-election. Eleven ex-prisoners (some released from Holloway earlier that morning) stand alongside Mrs Flora Drummond. Banners and flags decorate the Electro bus that brought the demonstrators from London. The members of the mid-Essex prize band who provided valuable musical support stand on the top deck. Captured by Local photographer Fred Spalding. Date: 1908
